The BMC is preparing to launch an online ticketing system for the newly completed Malabar Hill Elevated Forest Walkway, aimed at effectively managing crowds and ensuring a smooth visitor experience. While the entrance fee structure is still being finalised, the walkway is expected to open to the public in this month, offering an exciting new way to explore the lush green expanse of Malabar Hill.
Spanning 482 meters in length and 2.4 meters in width, the city’s first elevated walkway is designed with entry and exit points at Siri Road. Featuring an elevated wooden deck, railings, and vertical supports, it is set to offer a unique walking experience amidst the lush greenery of Malabar Hill. The elevated walkway will provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to stroll above the bustling city, enjoying breathtaking views of the cityscape and the iconic Girgaon Chowpatty. The project, initially scheduled for inauguration by the end of January, has been delayed for the construction of the control room and to develop crowd management systems.
"Since the wooden walkway can accommodate only 400 visitors at a time, crowd control measures are essential. To manage this, we will implement an online ticketing system with designated time slots for visitors. Once the 400-entry capacity is reached, the gate will be closed. Only after ensuring that the current group has exited will the next group be allowed entry," said an official. He further added, "Although there will be an entry fee, it will be nominal. The exact dates for the walkway's opening will be finalised in the coming days."
Restrictions will be imposed on carrying food while using the walkway, as it may attract monkeys. Visitors will only be allowed to carry water bottles, according to official. The walkway is being built at a cost of Rs 25 crore. The tenders for this project were awarded in the year 2021.
