Mumbai: To assess and review the ongoing actions against unauthorised constructions across Mumbai city and its suburban areas, Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Joshi chaired a key meeting on Wednesday at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters.
The officials present at the meeting were Joint Commissioner (Tax Assessment and Collection) Mr. Vishwas Shankarwar, Assistant Commissioner for Encroachment Removal (Eastern and Western Suburbs) Mr. Vinayak Vispute, and Assistant Commissioner (City) for Encroachment Removal Smt. Mridula Ande, along with Assistant Commissioners of various administrative departments, designated officers, and officials from the Tax Assessment Department.

BMC To Launch Dedicated Sanitary Waste Collection Service From May 1
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will launch a special service for the safe and systematic collection of Domestic Sanitary and Special Care Waste from May 1. The initiative aims to ensure the proper handling of Domestic Hazardous Waste (DHW) and promote responsible waste disposal practices across the city.
To ensure public participation and raise awareness, the civic body has begun the registration process from Tuesday. Housing societies, residential buildings, beauty salons, womenтАЩs hostels, and educational institutions are encouraged to sign up and avail of this new service.
Mumbai currently produces about 7,000 to 8,000 tonnes of solid waste daily. Of this, around 70 to 80 tonnes consist of sanitary waste associated with personal hygiene. This includes items such as used diapers, sanitary napkins, tampons, and condoms. It also covers hazardous items like soiled cotton, blood-stained bandages, expired medications, syringes, needles, razor blades, and waste from beauty parlours, including waxing strips and disposable protective gear.
The BMCтАЩs new initiative is a step toward safer waste management practices and aims to protect sanitation workers while reducing environmental hazards.
