Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released information on lake water supply as of 6 am on June 19, indicating a rise in water levels across Mumbai's seven lakes because of substantial rainfall. The lakes, essential for the city's water supply, have a total capacity of 14.47 lakh million liters.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts continued precipitation in the region, anticipated to raise water levels even more. The IMD predicts rain in Mumbai until June 22, with light to moderate rainfall anticipated today and tomorrow, and further isolated heavy downpours along with more moderate rain on June 20.
According to the latest data provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the current water levels show Upper Vaitarna at 603.81 m with 295.44 million litres and 12.25 mm of rainfall, totalling 33 mm. Modak Sagar stands at 151.78 m with 35.18 million litres, a rise of 1.69 m, and 17.18 mm of rainfall.
Tansa is at 243.65 m, holding 13.54 million litres, with a rise of 2.68 m and 13.54 mm of rainfall. Bhatsa, with a height of 76.58 m, contains 37.71 million litres, has increased by 0.13 m, and received 24 mm of rain. Vihar/Vebar measures 134.70 m, has a rise of 0.12 m, and recorded 36.28 mm of rainfall. The overall water supply from every source amounts to 77,132 million litres.

These lakes, including Bhatsa and Tansa, have a total capacity of 14.47 lakh million litres, currently holding 1,41,511 million litres or 9.78% of capacity, up from 8.60% on Monday.
The Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, and Tansa lakes contributed 85,227 million litres, improving to 12.27% capacity. Rainfall measurements revealed significant amounts, particularly in Tulsi (162 mm) and Vihar (101 mm). The India Meteorological Department predicts continued rain through June 22, with an orange alert issued for intense rainfall causing waterlogging in several areas, especially Santacruz East with 93 mm.
