Mumbai: The BMC has completed concretisation of 1,385 roads, which were dug up pre-monsoon for concreting. The concrete curing for the roads will be completed by June 2 and all the barracading will be removed by June 5 to open all the roads for traffic movement, the BMC said on Thursday.
Apart from completing the road works, the officers also have to ensure removal of road works debris in the next two days.
Out of total 1,385 roads, 30 roads are being partially completed with mastic asphalt, but most of the roads have been completed 'end to end' and some roads are completed 'junction to junction'. The remaining roads works will be taken up after the monsoon.
"While connecting the completed roads to the junction, it should be ensured that the junction part remains leveled with mastic asphalt. A list of authorized speed bumps on the roads should be obtained from the department offices and be restored," Additional Municipal Commissioner, (Projects) Abhijit Bangar directed the civic engineers.
Bangar inspected the road works in the eastern suburbs on May 28 night, which included Sant Kakkaya Marg, Chembur; Saki Vihar Road, Sikova Industrial Lane, Ghatkopar West; Subhash Nagar Road, Bhandup West; Surya Nagar Road, Vikhroli West and Marathon Galaxy Road in Mulund West among others.
Bangar said that planned road concreting works undertaken are nearing completion. "It was decided to complete the pouring of Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) by May 20, however, due to pre-monsoon rains, the deadline was extended to May 23, which has been effectively implemented. With the completion of the PQC works, the final finishing works are now in progress. As soon the city gets brief relief from the rains, works like thermoplastic, cat eyes, signage, traffic safety signs, junction grids etc will be completed."
