Mumbai: All India Muslim Personal Law Board has directed Muslims to suspend protest activities related to the Waqf Amendment Act on Friday to express regret over the killing of innocent people in the attack by terrorists in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

The AIMPLB issued the directive on Wednesday evening to suspend all protests till April 25 to mourn the Pahalgam attack. The protests will resume from April 26. In the meantime, planning for the protests can continue, said Mahmood Ahmad Dariyabadi, convenor for the protest campaign.

The organisation, which was set up to promote and protect Islamic personal law, had announced protests across the country till July 7 to get the government to withdraw the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, passed by parliament on April 8. People have been asked to organise demonstrations after Friday's prayers and wear black armbands as a sign of protest.

Meanwhile, Shia religious leader Maulana Yasoob Abbas, national general secretary of the All India Shia Personal Law Board, said that the attack on tourists was a cowardly act.

"I strongly condemn it. No religion allows to torture or kill an innocent person. Our country has become a target of terrorism many times. Thousands of innocent children, women and men have lost their lives. India cannot be scared by such attacks, but this definitely removes the mask from the faces of the oppressors," said Abbas.

He asked the Indian government that it should take the harshest action against the terrorists and all those involved in this conspiracy and provide justice to the martyrs.
