Mumbai: The N. M. Joshi Marg police on Monday arrested a 65-year-old former Indian Postal Service employee under the POSCO Act. The accused is alleged to have made obscene gestures at a minor girl. This shocking incident came to light after the victim filmed his actions and showed the video to her mother.
According to the police, the 12-year-old victim lives with her family in the Lower Parel area. The accused resides in the same building. Since May 18, the accused would allegedly make obscene gestures towards the girl. The girl informed her mother, but initially, they didn't believe her.
Around the same time, the accused allegedly touched her inappropriately while she was on her way to class. Finally, the girl recorded the pervert making obscene gestures on her mobile phone and showed it to her mother, who was shocked. The parents then took their daughter to the Na. M. Joshi Marg police station and showed the video to the officers.
Taking the seriousness of the matter into account, the police immediately registered a case under Sections 74 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, and Sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. Police are investigating if the accused has committed similar acts with other children.
