Mumbai: Three people died while five people were injured in a fire that broke out in the Galaxy Hotel in the Santacruz area of ​​Mumbai on Sunday afternoon. Police and local authorities have rushed to the spot.

The blaze was reported on the third floor of the ground-plus four-storey hotel at around 1.17 pm after which four fire tenders and as many water tankers were rushed to the spot.

According to the fire brigade, the blaze was confined to electric wiring, electric installation, split AC unit, curtain, mattresses, wooden furniture of room number 103 and 203.

The fire was also confined to electric wiring in common electric duct, laundry cloths, and blankets from the staircase lobby from the first floor to third floor of the hotel.

The Fire was extinguished using three small hose lines, one high pressure first aid line. The fire was categorized as Level 1 and was doused at 3.20 pm. 

Two persons identified as Rupal Kanji (25), Kishan (28) and Kantilal Gordhan Vara (48) were declared brought dead by VN Desai hospital authorities. Alfa Vakhariya (19) and Manjula Vakhariya (49) are injured and are under treatment," he said.

"The building was old. It was constructed during 2005-2006. The building may have fulfilled the fire norms which was compulsory at that time. But we used hose lines and fire extinguishers which were there in the hotel.

"Our fire brigade jawans doused the fire within two hours but there was thick smoke spreaded throughout the building. Cause of the fire is under investigation and after investigation we will decide which action should be taken against the hotel," Ravindra Ambulgekar, Chief fire brigade officer of Mumbai told FPJ.

"We evacuated around 7-8 people from the hotels but hotel people may have evacuated some people from the building."

According to the sources, the three deaths occurred due to burn injuries and two got injuries due to thick smoke. After the fire there was chaos in the hotel.    

Aug 15 fire in residential building

The latest fire incident comes just days after a senior citizen died in a fire at a residential building on Tagore Road in Santacruz.

The blaze, reported on August 15, at 15:47 hrs, led to a rapid response by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) in their bid to rescue residents and contain the situation.

The fire, categorized as Level 1, caused extensive damage to the sixth floor of the Haripreet Building. Smoke billowed through the premises, posing a significant challenge for both occupants and firefighting teams.
