Nalasopara: A 46-year-old woman, Mamta Dubey, was arrested on Friday in Nalasopara West near Mumbai, for allegedly killing her 20-year-old daughter, Asmita, upon discovering her pregnancy. The shocking crime involved Mamta’s 17-year-old younger daughter, who reportedly assisted in the assault.

How Did The Crime Come To Light?

The incident came to light when Mamta initially reported to the police that Asmita, a college student, had died from severe stomach pain. However, when officers from the Nalasopara police station arrived, they noticed suspicious injuries on Asmita’s body, including facial swelling and unexplained marks. Sensing foul play, the police sent the body for a post-mortem examination at JJ Hospital.

According to Hindustan Times, the autopsy revealed multiple injuries and confirmed that Asmita had died due to strangulation, with clear marks on her neck. Following this, the police registered a murder case and began a deeper investigation.

Mother-Daughter Duo Killed 20-Yr-Old Victim

During questioning, Mamta confessed to the crime, explaining that she had discovered her daughter was pregnant by her boyfriend. Asmita, who was unmarried, refused her mother's demand to terminate the pregnancy, leading to a violent confrontation. In a horrifying turn, the younger daughter allegedly helped her mother by tying Asmita’s legs during the assault.

The police have arrested Mamta, who will remain in custody until Tuesday. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old minor, who is still attending her HSC exams, has not yet been detained. Authorities are considering the legal procedure regarding her involvement in the crime.

A case has been registered under sections 103 (murder), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding Asmita's pregnancy and her relationship with her boyfriend.

The investigation is ongoing and the police are likely to provide further updates as they uncover more details about the family dynamics and the events leading up to this tragic incident.
