Mumbai: Massive fire breaks out in Kamla Nagar in Dharavi, no injuries reported; visuals surface

Mumbai: A massive fire broke out in the slums at Kamla Nagar in Dharavi area. To douse the fire, more than ten firefighters were dispatched. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

Muzamill Idris, a resident, said, โ€œAround 4 am, we heard people screaming. We came out of the factory where we work and saw people running around for their lives.โ€

According to the preliminary information received, the fire was initially reported around 4.22 am and an hour later, the fire department dubbed it as a level three fire. Level III fire is a major emergency call.

The firefighters were able to douse the fire around 8.00 am, nearly four hours after the blaze was first reported.

The BMC officials said that the fire was confined to electric wiring, electric installation, clothes, papers, sewing machine and garments in ground floor of the ground + three-storey structure used as a garment factory.

The officials added that bakery, various godwns and household articles etc in hutments in the 200m x 300 m area.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai traffic police announced that due to the fire, 90 feet road has been closed for the vehicular traffic.

"Due to the fire at Dharavi Kamla Nagar, 90 feet road has been closed and the traffic has been diverted to Santh Rohidas Marg. Instead of going to 60 feet road from T junction, the traffic has been diverted to Raheja Mahim," the cops said in a tweet.
