Are Mumbaikars getting fed up with traditional food, and that's why they are turning to so-called fusion food? Thus, you have butter chicken with penne pasta, malai kofta with mayonnaise, mysore masala dosa with schezwan sauce, vanilla ice cream with motichoor laddu, batata wada with kaju gravy, etc. At weddings too, guests have started customising fusion food. So you have guys savouring chole with sada dosa, kulcha with undhiyu, mutton biryani with dahi bhalla et al. Now you have a whole lot of wannabe restaurants like 'Global Fusion' specialising exclusively in fusion food. The fact that these joints are doing well shows that fusion food is here to stay. Recently, two women decided to start a restaurant called 'Fusion Thali' near Cubic Mall, Chembur. They serve unlimited pure vegetarian Punjabi and Marathi dishes with mango juice and excellent modak with hot ghee poured on top just before being served. At Rs399, it's a steal.

Ego Problems Marring CHS Affairs

The recent news of a man biting the finger of an office-bearer at the annual general body meeting of a cooperative housing society should be a cause of deep concern, considering the fact that most of us live in such societies. Many of the disputes are because of bloated egos and attitude problems on part of both members and the managing committee. Many of the issues plaguing these societies can be solved with transparency and right approach without running to the deputy registrar. Some of the office-bearers start throwing their weight within hours of their election. We often blame the government but we are unable to manage our own societies.

Melodious Echoes & Diehard Fans

Some people seriously believe that melody in Hindi film music died at the start of the year 2000. As if to prove them wrong, Siddharth Entertainment headed by city businessmen, Siddharth Mishra and Deepak Bathija, recently organised a housefull show titled '2000 to 2025' at the 3,000-seater Shanmukhananda Hall, Sion. Powered by a very competent orchestra and ace singers like Shailaja Subramanian, Gul Saxena, Chirag Panchal, Alok Katdare, Ipshit Pati and Raman Mahadevan, Mishra and Bathija presented an evening to remember. The audience was simply swept off its feet by one lovely number after another. Mishra and Bathija have lined up many more shows at the same venue, including an 'A R Rahman night' and an 'Evening with Sukhwinder'.
