Mumbai: A 35-year-old man lost his life in a hit-and-run incident near the Garamkhada Junction in Lalbaug on Wednesday morning after being struck by a speeding dumper. The victim, whose identity is yet to be determined, was fatally injured in the collision and declared dead upon arrival at KEM Hospital.
Dumper Driver Fled Scene After Accident
According to Kalachowki Police, the accident occurred around 10 am on the northbound road heading towards Dadar. Eyewitnesses stated that the man was hit by a garbage-carrying dumper that was moving at high speed. Shockingly, instead of stopping to assist the injured man or informing authorities, the dumper driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, Lokmat Times reported.
The incident was first reported by Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Mahendra Raghunath Uttekar, who resides at the Byculla Police Colony and is currently posted at Bhoiwada Police Station. Uttekar received a message from the police control room regarding an accident near the Lalbaug signal and rushed to the spot along with a team.

Victim Declared Dead On Arrival At KEM Hospital
Upon arrival, police found the victim lying in a critical condition on the road. He had sustained severe injuries and there were no identification documents found on him. The man was quickly transported to KEM Hospital by police personnel, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and efforts are underway to confirm his identity.
Based on PSI Uttekar’s complaint, Kalachowki Police registered a case against the unidentified dumper driver under IPC sections related to causing death by negligence and failing to report the incident. Officials have already procured the vehicle's registration number and are actively tracing both the dumper and the absconding driver.
