Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated significant upgrades to several key stations in Mumbai as part of the Amrit Bharat Scheme with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 22. The major stations include Parel, Matunga, Chinchpokli, and Wadala Road, with the initiative aimed at improving passenger experience and modernising the city's transport infrastructure.

The upgrades will cover multiple stations within the Central Railway's Mumbai Division. These renovations are part of the broader Amrit Bharat Scheme, which is designed to enhance the overall functionality and aesthetic appeal of railway stations.

Highlights of the Station Upgrades:

Chinchpokli Station: The station with a daily footfall of 36,696 passengers has undergone a major transformation. Key features include elevated booking offices, improved platform flooring, better seating, and drinking water facilities. Additionally, the station's circulating areas now feature vertical gardens, 3D wall art, and tensile fabric umbrellas, giving the space a modern and artistic makeover. The overall cost of the update will be Rs 11.81 crore.

Parel Station: Serving 47,738 daily commuters, Parel station now boasts a new building, elevated parking, and a modernised toilet block. Other upgrades include upgraded drainage systems, enhanced boundary walls with vertical gardens, and a strengthened Mumbai-end FOB. New gardening features have been added along the tracks, significantly improving the station's appearance and functionality. The overall cost of the update will be Rs 19.41 crore.

Wadala Road Station: Wadala Road, with a daily passenger traffic of 1.32 lakh, has received extensive renovations, including the overhaul of platform flooring, drainage systems, and toilet blocks. A major beautification effort has also been made to the Mumbai-end FOB and the booking offices, offering a more comfortable and appealing experience for commuters. The cost of Wadala station will be Rs 23.02 crore.

Matunga Station: Matunga, India’s first all-women-operated station, has been upgraded with new flooring, improved toilet blocks, and Divyangjan-friendly facilities. The wooden-arch main building has been restored, and a vertical garden, enhanced booking offices, and colourful 3D wall art have been added to give the station a vibrant new look. With a daily footfall of 37,927 passengers, these upgrades will significantly improve both accessibility and aesthetics. The cost of the update will be Rs 17.28 crore.

These improvements under the Amrit Bharat Scheme reflect the government's commitment to upgrading the country’s railway stations, enhancing commuter convenience, and ensuring sustainable development for the future.
