Mumbai: The Dadar police have uncovered a major fake Navy recruitment racket operating in the Worli Koliwada area. A case of fraud and forgery has been registered against four individuals, including a woman, identified as Anuj Mayekar, Nitin Shetye, Ganesh Nagarkar, and Shraddha Gothivarekar. Police have launched a manhunt to track down the accused, who are currently absconding, and have assured that their arrests will be made soon.
According to Dadar police, the accused have allegedly duped at least 15 people of ₹76 lakh under the pretense of securing officer-level jobs in the Indian Navy. Authorities suspect that the number of victims may be higher, as investigations to identify more complainants are still ongoing.
As per the police, the complaint was filed by 28-year-old Mayur Mangesh Dalvi, a resident of Worli Koliwada. Dalvi came in contact with the accused in December 2024, when they convinced him that a large-scale recruitment drive was ongoing in the Indian Navy and assured him of securing a job. The fraudsters also asked him if he knew other interested candidates, leading Dalvi to introduce his friends and relatives to the scheme.
In total, 15 people applied, and the accused collected ₹76 lakh from them, including ₹60 lakh via bank transfers and ₹16 lakh in cash. The transactions occurred between December 5, 2024, and February 13, 2025.
However, after the promised recruitment deadline passed, none of the victims received their appointment letters or job confirmations. When the victims confronted the accused, they started evading questions. Realizing they had been scammed, the victims approached the police.
Following Dalvi’s complaint, Dadar police registered a case against Anuj Mayekar, Nitin Shetye, Ganesh Nagarkar, and Shraddha Gothivarekar for creating fake documents and financial fraud. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accused soon.
