The Maharashtra government has appointed Iqbal Singh Chahal as the BMC’s administrator as the term of the elected members ended on March 7.

For the first time in four decades, an administrator will manage the administrative and financial functioning of the civic body due to delay in holding elections.

All powers to sanction proposals will rest with the administrator till elections are held, a senior civic official said.

Citizens can register their complaints on Chat bot, Twitter and at BMC war rooms.

Complaints to be attended by BMC officers. Earlier, citizens used to put up their grievances and complaints with local corporators, who were easily available.

Problem area

Most citizens are not aware of the BMC’s complaint portals. BMC said assistant municipal commissioner level officers will review complaints twice a day and will forward them to departments concerned for redressal. Corporators can also send messages to officers if problems are related to the public.

Proposals in the BMC

While earlier, the proposals used to be put before the standing committee, improvement committee and works’ committee, now, the administrator is sole authority to pass proposals. Moreover, a committee of officers may be set up to decide on proposals.
