Mumbai: The Kandivali police on Friday registered an FIR against Shiv Sena (Shinde) office-bearer Lalsingh Rajpurohit and his associate Harish Makdia, for allegedly cheating of a 62-year-old woman of Rs 52 lakh. The Free Press Journal reported on Friday that the police had not yet filed the FIR in the case.

The cheating complaint against him was filed on January 6 by Sushma Pai. The Borivali resident alleged that in 2021, she wanted to sell her shop because she needed funds for her paralysed husband Dattaram Pai's treatment. A deal was struck with Rajpurohit for Rs 52 lakh, he gave a small token amount and took possession of the shop, said Pai.

However, when the Pai family did not receive the money within the agreed time, they visited Rajpurohit’s office in February 2020 to ask for the payment. Rajpurohit told them that he did not have the funds at the moment but would pay later. As the Pai family urgently needed money for treatment, they insisted that he either pay the amount or return the shop. In response, Rajpurohit threatened them and told them that he would continue paying rent.

Eventually, Sushma Pai filed a complaint against Rajpurohit and Makdia on January 6. The Kandivali police registered a case under sections 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
