Mumbai: A massive fire broke out on the 7th floor of a 23-storey residential building in New Jankalyan Society, located in Shanti Nagar, S.V. Road, Dahisar, on Sunday at 3:05 pm, triggering a swift emergency response.
A total of 36 residents were rescued in the incident, out of which 19 were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Among the injured, one woman was declared dead, while one man remains in critical condition. Five others sustained minor injuries and are currently in stable condition.
Northern Care Hospital received 10 injured individuals, though their condition details are still awaited. One injured person was admitted to Pragati Hospital, with their medical status yet to be confirmed. Another individual, reported to be in critical condition, was taken to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) deployed multiple firefighting units to the scene, including seven fire engines and several support vehicles, as flames and smoke were seen billowing from the affected floor.
Firefighting operations were underway, and emergency personnel worked to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other floors of the high-rise building.

In another fire incident from Thane, a major blaze broke out at a single-storey dyeing unit in the Kamatghar area of Bhiwandi town around 10 pm on Friday, a fire official confirmed on Saturday.
There were no reports of casualties, but the fire quickly intensified due to the presence of cloth materials stored in the unit. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighting operations continued through the night, with two fire engines deployed at the scene to bring the situation under control.
