Yamini Pal, a social worker who reportedly got word of the incident, shared that despite the severe injury, the dog was later seen on camera returning to her litter to feed them. At the time of the attack, the puppies were not in the immediate vicinity, sparing them from danger. The local tribal residents of Aarey Colony have since stepped in to care for the puppies in their homes while their mother, now named ‘Shakti’, undergoes treatment.

Shakti Suffers Injuries On Neck Due To Attack

Shakti suffered a torn neck and was in critical condition. According to a Times of India report, Taronish Balsara, founder of the Andheri-based NGO World For All, said that the dog initially attempted to eat and drink, but everything she consumed leaked out due to a perforation in her neck. She was taken to Top Dog Pets Clinic in Andheri (west), where veterinarian Dr Makarand Chousalkar diagnosed a punctured oesophagus. The food pipe injury caused food and water to trickle out, and there was also infection around the wound.

A team of veterinary surgeons, Dr Barry Kalsy, Dr Akshata Gulvady, and Dr Kaavya Sudhakar successfully operated on Shakti a few days ago, suturing the damaged section of her food pipe, as per the report. Dr Chousalkar confirmed that the surgery went well and the dog is now on the path to recovery.

Shakti's Pups Being Taken Care Of By Locals

Meanwhile, the pups, who are a little over two months old, are being lovingly hand-fed by the local tribals, ensuring they are well-nourished in their mother’s absence.
