Mumbai: Female Doctor At J J Hospital Attempts Suicide; Condition Stable, Investigation Underway

Mumbai: Following the recent suicide of a doctor at J.J. Hospital who jumped from the Atal Setu, another female doctor from the same hospital attempted to take her own life in her hostel room on Thursday night. She was promptly given medical treatment, and her condition is currently stable.

The hospital administration, along with the Department of Medical Education and Research, has set up independent committees to investigate the incident. The doctor ingested an overdose of medication but was quickly admitted to the hospital by her colleagues, which helped save her life. Her parents in Uttar Pradesh have been informed about the situation, as reported by Loksatta.

The exact reasons behind her suicide attempt remain unclear. Dr. Ajay Bhandarwar, Dean of J J Hospital, stated that the findings of the two separate inquiry committees, one at the hospital and another by the Department of Medical Education and Research, will provide clarity once their reports are submitted.

Similar Case

In a separate news story of suicide, a 32-year-old doctor from JJ Hospital allegedly jumped into the creek from Atal Setu on Monday night. The incident occurred at approximately 9:43 PM on July 7 and was reported to the Atal Setu Control Room.

According to Ulwe Police, the control room received a call reporting that a person had jumped off the bridge at the 11,800-kilometre mark on the Mumbai-bound lane. Police teams and beat marshals quickly arrived at the scene, where they found a Honda Amaze car (registration number MH 46 CM 6837) and an iPhone left abandoned.

Upon investigation, the individual was identified as Dr. Omkar Bhagwat Kavitke, a doctor working at JJ Hospital and a resident of Room No. 1001, Avinash Society, Plot No. 67, Sector 20, Kalamboli. His identity was confirmed after police contacted a number found on the recovered phone. Dr. Kavitke’s sister, Komal Pramod Lambate, along with other family members, reached the police station and verified his identity.
