Mumbai: In a major cryptocurrency scam, renowned film producer Subhrat Prasannakumar Roy (53), a resident of Khar, has lodged a complaint with the Khar Police alleging that he was defrauded of ₹3.58 crore by three individuals under the pretext of investing in cryptocurrency. Khar police have been registered an FIR against trio under sections 316, 318(2), 318(4), 3(5) of BNS.
According to the FIR, the accused — Chirag Rameshchandra Shah and his two children, Sarthak Shah and Dhruvi Shah — residents of Bandar Road, Mindspace Ken Plaza, Chincholi, Malad, lured the complainant and his business partner Rimi Sen into investing in a crypto trading scheme.
The incident reportedly began in March 2020 and continued till date. The accused allegedly won their trust by promising attractive returns of 8-10% per month on crypto investments. They further claimed that a 10% fee would be charged on profits made.
Relying on these assurances, Roy transferred a total of ₹3.58 crore into various bank accounts held by the accused and their associates. However, despite repeated requests, neither the principal amount nor the promised returns were paid back, leading Roy to realise he had been duped.
Following his complaint, the Khar Police have registered a case against all three accused under relevant sections for cheating and criminal breach of trust. Further investigation is underway.
