Mumbai: In a significant crackdown on counterfeit currency circulation, the Trombay Police have arrested a 27-year-old man, Mohammad Samir Abdul Qadir Khan, a resident of A-Sector, M-Line, Cheetah Camp, Trombay. Police seized fake Indian currency notes worth Rs95,500 all in Rs500 denomination from his possession.

Tip-Off Leads to Action

According to police sources, PSI Sharad Nanekar received a tip-off from an informant that Khan, a resident of Cheetah Camp, was distributing fake currency. The informant further revealed that Khan would be arriving at the Trombay bus terminal carrying counterfeit Rs500 notes.

Items Seized

Acting on the information, a police team led by Senior Inspector Rajesh Shinde laid a trap at the location around 2 p.m. and apprehended Khan. A search of the accused resulted in the seizure of an OPPO mobile phone, Rs450 in cash, a driving license, and five bundles of fake Rs500 notes — totaling 191 counterfeit notes. All the items, including the fake currency and related documents, were seized by the police.

Based on a complaint filed by Police Head Constable Sanjay Awhad, an FIR was registered against Khan under Sections 178, 179, 180, 181, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

Accused Names Source

During police interrogation, Khan confessed that he had received the counterfeit notes from a man named Munna in Belapur, Navi Mumbai. He also revealed that his connection with Munna was established through another person known as Minu.

Investigation Underway

The Trombay police believe that this arrest is part of a larger counterfeit currency distribution network and have initiated further investigation to trace the source and network involved in the fake currency racket and are working towards dismantling the operation.
