Mumbai: On Sunday evening in the Mulund area of Mumbai, 26-year-old Karan Mohite crashed his vehicle into an iron pole near a police station in Vaishali Nagar, creating a stir. The incident occurred around 8 PM, causing police officers to rush outside and signal for him to stop.

Instead, Mohite sped up, leading the police to chase him for 11 kilometres along the Eastern Express Highway. In his escape, he collided with six to seven other vehicles before being apprehended near Vikhroli. Preliminary testing indicated that he was not affected by alcohol at the time of the incident.

The situation unfolded as bystanders and police responded to the loud sound produced by Mohite's initial collision. Although officials suspect that more vehicles may have been damaged, no formal complaints from affected vehicle owners had been filed by late Sunday night.

Officials are continuing their investigation into the circumstances, which have raised worries due to the dangerous behaviours exhibited during the chase. Mohite's actions prompted an immediate response from law enforcement, highlighting the dangers associated with speeding and traffic accidents on busy roads. The present study aims to assess the full extent of the damage and tackle any outstanding issues related to the incident.

Another Incident

A 53-year-old man named Ashok Dange died after being struck by a dumper truck while riding his motorcycle on the Western Express Highway en route to work in Malad. Critically injured, he was taken to Jogeshwari Trauma Care Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Dange worked as a security guard on the night shift at a firm in Jogeshwari East and ran a small daytime business, routinely shopping for items to take home.

On the day of the incident, he left home as usual, but around 1:30 PM, his son received a call from the police about the accident. The family rushed to the hospital, only to learn of Dange’s death. The Aarey Police have registered a case against the truck driver, 29-year-old Sheshrao Chauhan from Naya Gaon, under sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have issued a notice to the driver regarding the incident.
