Mumbai: In a major drug bust, the Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 5 arrested two men suspected to be drug suppliers and seized 2 kilograms of mephedrone (MD) near the Jogeshwari Bus Depot. The seized narcotics have an estimated value of around Rs 4 crore in the international market.

The operation was carried out on the evening of May 15 near SV Road in Jogeshwari West, where officers led by Police Inspector Nair were on routine patrol. The team spotted two individuals behaving suspiciously near the depot and decided to investigate further. Upon intercepting and searching the duo, police found a huge quantity of MD in their possession. Both suspects were immediately taken into custody.

Following the arrest, a case was registered against them at the Amboli Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace the origins of the seized drugs and uncover the larger network possibly involved in the smuggling and distribution of mephedrone in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

Another Drug Seizure In Mumbai's Shivaji Nagar Reported Recently

This arrest comes just two days after another major drug seizure by Shivaji Nagar Police earlier this month. In that case, police raided a flat in the Govandi area and uncovered a stockpile of narcotics with a total estimated value exceeding Rs 6 crore. During the operation, officials recovered 3 kilograms of mephedrone valued at Rs 6 crore and 12 kilograms of premium-quality ganja worth approximately Rs 2.4 lakh, reported the Hindustan Times.

Alongside the drugs, police also confiscated 36 bottles of codeine phosphate-based cough syrup, commonly known as Corex, valued at Rs 18,000. Additionally, Rs 1.30 lakh in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales, was seized during the raid. The total haul from the Govandi bust stood at Rs 6.03 crore.
