Mumbai: In a major crackdown against illegal drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Police has arrested three individuals with over Rs 2 crore worth of Tramadol tablets from the JB Circle area of Andheri. The seized drug, often referred to as the "ISIS drug," is known for its abuse in extremist and militant networks.

Trio Nabbed in Late-Night Operation by ANC Azad Maidan Unit

Acting on a tip-off, the Azad Maidan Unit of the ANC conducted a raid in Andheri, detaining Pratik Upadhyay, Yogesh Singh, and Bhavesh Shah. Authorities recovered a staggering 1,11,440 Tramadol tablets from the suspects. Sources revealed that the accused were allegedly supplying the drugs through courier services, hinting at a wider trafficking network.

Tramadol Known as ‘ISIS Drug’ for Its Abuse by Terror Groups

Tramadol, originally a pain-relief medication, was declared a psychotropic substance by the Government of India in 2018. Belonging to the same family as opioid painkillers like oxycodone and hydrocodone, Tramadol is highly addictive and widely misused as a recreational drug. Its abuse has led authorities to impose stringent controls on its sale and distribution.

Drugs Hidden for Large-Scale Distribution, Pointing to Wider Syndicate

Officials suspect that the trio may have links to an international drug trafficking syndicate, and further investigations are underway to trace the network's reach and possible connections outside India. The operation forms part of Mumbai Police’s ongoing crackdown on the city's illegal drug ecosystem.
