Mumbai: A non-cognizable offense has been registered under section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against V. B. Tiwari at the Azad Maidan Police Station, following an alleged attempt to assault a student at Siddharth Law College, Anand Bhavan, Fort.

According to the complaint filed by Vaibhav Raju Gaikwad (27), a student, resident of Siddharth Colony, Chembur, the incident occurred on June 23, 2025. Gaikwad had gone to meet the Acting Principal, Prof. Sudhakar Reddy, around 12:40 p.m. to discuss student-related issues.

While the conversation was underway in the principal’s chamber, Senior advocate V. B. Tiwari (80), who was present in the room, allegedly raised an umbrella at Gaikwad and issued threats without any provocation. Gaikwad further alleged that Tiwari used abusive language and attempted to assault him, amounting to an act of intimidation.

The complainant stated that this behavior represents an attempt to suppress students’ voices and trample upon their basic rights. Though the incident has been recorded as a non-cognizable offense, the police have accepted the complaint and further inquiry is underway.
