Here is one reason why water is dripping from roofs on passengers waiting at the platforms. There are bottles and waste dumped on the culverts choking rainwater on the roofs. The Western Railway is inspecting these roofs on the suburban section on Churchgate - Dahanu route.

Commuters are taking the social media to complain about the 'waterfall' seen at railway stations. Earlier this month, there was one complaint on micro blogging site of Twitter where water was seen falling incessantly at Nalasopara station.

The Western Railway authorities attended this complaint as well where they mentioned about this overflowing valley gutter at platforms 2-3 of Nalasopara railway station which was attended by the rail staffs.

There was another complaint made at Andheri railway station which was attended by the rail staff and sources said that the station master was told to clean the gutter on the roof to prevent overflowing of rainwater.

"We found that the down take pipe was chocked as bottles, polythene covers and others elements were thrown on the gutter's alleyway which caused the problem. We urge people not to throw bottles, wrappers and other garbage on roof of platforms to avoid such issues in the future," said a senior official from Western Railway.

Sources said that they found heaps of garbage and waste thrown which included 20-25 bottles too that was apparently thrown by unscrupulous fringe elements and alleged vagabonds roaming the railway station premises.

The rail authorities are now keeping an eye on railway stations and their platforms and are monitoring social media handles and sites for similar complaints. Plus they are also inspecting the stations as well to identify areas, if any, having similar trouble on roofs over platform.

There have been complains just around monsoon about missing roofs at railway stations on both Central and Western Railways. In this case, there are stretches where roofs above platforms either do not exist or works are underway to fix them.
