Mumbai: ACB nabs BMC executive engineer red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 50 lakh in Andheri

A team from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught an executive engineer posted at the BMC's K-east ward while accepting the bribe amount at his office on Friday.

Mumbai: The Executive Engineer of BMC has been arrested red-handed by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakh for not taking action on an unauthorised shed of a company in Andheri.

The bureau has identified the executive engineer as Satish Powar (57),) who is working in the Andheri K-West ward.The ACBBhase recovered Rs 1.13crore ine cash and 1200 grammes of gold ornaments from Powar's house.

The complainant had received a notice from the BMC on October 13 for constructing an illegal shed on his company's premises. The complainant had replied to the notice to the BMC on October 19.

Later, on October 28, officials and staff from BMC K-West Ward arrived to demolish the illegal shed located in the complainant's company. The complainant then called Powar, who asked him to come to the office.

First he sent officials and staff, then they demanded money.

Accordingly, when the complainant visited the office, Powar demanded Rs 50 lakhs for not taking action. But as the complainant did not want to pay the bribe, he lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

According to the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau squad laid a trap and caught Powar red-handed while accepting cash of Rs 50 lakh from the complaint.

ACB officials searched the home of Executive Engineer Satish Powar on Friday. 1.13 crore in cash and 1200 grammes of gold ornaments were found in his house. An ACB official said, "Powar's house was searched, and Rs 1.13 crore in cash and 1200 grammes of gold were found in his house. Besides whether he has any other assets or not, that is also being investigated."
