Mumbai: Mumbai BJP party president Ashish Shelar received a death threat through a letter and registered a complaint at the Bandra police station on Friday.

Mr Shelar claimed that the letter was dropped at his Bandra office, threatening to chop him into pieces and scatter them on the beach.

He said indecent and provocative language was used in the letter against his family, the BJP party and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction.

According to the Bandra police, the letter was sent by an unknown person and was found by party workers in the afternoon.

“An offence has been registered at Bandra police station. The complainant received a death threat through a letter found in their office letterbox,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anil Paraskar, Zone 9.

“The letter was not printed but handwritten letter, so further investigation will be carried out thoroughly,” DCP Paraskar said.

Sources said the letter was written in Marathi and was not signed or directed towards any specific sender, the police added.
