Mumbai: A tragic accident at Hindmata Bridge in Mumbai claimed the life of a 20-year-old pillion rider, Muhammad Ishak Akbar Shaikh, while his friend Arbaaz Mohammad Firoz Ansari, who was riding the bike, sustained serious injuries. The mishap occurred in the early hours of Sunday when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus allegedly ran over the duo as they attempted to overtake it.

Details Of The Accident

According to reports, the two friends were riding along the southbound lane of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in Dadar East when the incident occurred. As they tried to overtake the MSRTC bus, it reportedly veered to the right unexpectedly. This caused them to lose balance and fall from the bike.

Tragically, the rear wheels of the bus ran over them. Ishak succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Arbaaz, who suffered a severe head injury, was rushed to KEM Hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment, reported Hindustan Times.

Ishak was a resident of the Daru Khana area in Reay Road and had reportedly completed his SSC recently. He was involved in small-scale jobs, said officials. His father, Akbar Mansurali Shaikh, a 51-year-old security guard, was the first in the family to learn of the accident. Concerned when his son failed to return home late Saturday night, he called Ishak’s phone after 2 am.

An unknown individual answered the call and informed him that Ishak had met with an accident and was admitted at KEM Hospital. Upon reaching the hospital, the police confirmed that Ishak had been declared dead. Arbaaz, 23, who resides in Byculla, is currently receiving medical attention for his injuries.
