Mumbai: In a tragic incident on Wednesday afternoon, a 45-year-old worker lost his life when a wall collapsed during repair work in Narayan Nagar, Ghatkopar. The deceased has been identified as Javed Aziz Khan.

The accident occurred around noon near Gondia Hall and Gausia Mosque, where renovation work on a house was underway. As workers arrived for the job, a section of the wall suddenly gave way. Javed Khan was trapped under the debris, as reported by Loksatta.

24-Year-Old Civil Engineer Dies After Fall From 10th Floor of SRA Project Site

In a separate tragic incident reported from Malad West, a 24-year-old civil engineer, Omkar Sankhe, lost his life after falling from the 10th floor of a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project site on July 7.

According to the complaint filed by his father, Omkar was allegedly not provided with any safety equipment while working at the site. He reportedly fell from an unstable iron plank walkway, which gave way due to poor construction and a lack of safety protocols.

Following the incident, a case was registered by the Malad police against Shree Jee Builders and Developers. Those named in the complaint include the firm’s owner, Nimesh Desai, his business partners, and the site supervisor. The charges have been filed under sections 106(1) and 290 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, on death caused by negligence and failure to ensure construction site safety.

The incident has raised serious concerns about worker safety at construction sites, particularly in large-scale housing and redevelopment projects across Mumbai.
