The BMC has received 125 pothole-related complaints on its ‘MyBMC Pothole FixIt’ website in the last five days and among them, the civic attended 54 complaints so far. Eight people lost their lives in different incidents like tree falling and washing away during the same time.
This year, the BMC spent ₹144 crore for pothole fixing and ₹257 crore for desilting and despite that the problems have not ended.
BMC already started its pre-monsoon work
Like every year, the civic body started its pre-monsoon work including potholes fixing, desilting, tree trimming, and cleaning of old and chocked drainage lines in advance. Earlier, the BMC claimed that no water logging incidents will happen in the city; however, the first spell of monsoon has turned the promises false.
To bring transparency in the work and minimise the problem of citizens, the civic administration started online portals where the public can register their complaints pertaining to waterlogging and potholes. Now, hundreds of complaints are being registered on these portals every day.
