Mira Road: In a shocking case of suspected jealousy, a 21-year-old bar singer was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner at their shared residence in Mira Road on Friday night. The accused, 24-year-old Samsuddin Hafeez, is currently absconding and a murder case has been registered against him.
The victim, Kareena Kurshid Ali, lived with her two cousin brothers, Imran Kurshid Ali and Imran Naseer Ali, both 19 years old. All three hailed from Uttar Pradesh and were residing in the MHADA Colony in Mira Road. Samsuddin, who worked in a local hotel, also lived in the same locality. Kareena was employed as a singer in two bars and had been in a relationship with Samsuddin for about a year. They began living together five months ago.
According to police officials, tensions had been rising between the couple over the topic of marriage. Samsuddin was reportedly eager to marry Kareena soon, but she declined, stating she wanted to be financially stable first. Their frequent arguments over the issue were well known to those close to them.
“On Friday evening, the two had a heated argument during which Samsuddin told Kareena he was leaving for his native village because he believed she was having an affair,” a police officer said, as quoted by Hindustan Times. Kareena allegedly responded that she had no objection if he chose to leave. Samsuddin left around 7 pm but returned at 10 pm. When her cousins and another relative visited later, he repeated his plan to leave. The three then stepped out for a walk after dinner, leaving Kareena alone with him.
Victim Found Lying In Pool Of Blood
When they returned around 12:20 am, they found the door locked with the key hanging from the latch. Inside, Kareena lay in a pool of blood on the bed. Samsuddin was missing, and attempts to contact him failed. Kareena was rushed to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital in Bhayandar, where she was declared dead on arrival.
The police suspect that Samsuddin, in a fit of rage and jealousy, killed Kareena by slashing her throat. A case has been registered under Section 103 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused.
