Mira-Bhayandar: In a bid to address the gap between education and employability, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) in association with Kotak Education Foundation (KEF) and Tech Mahindra Foundation (TMF) has established a skill training center in Mira Road.
Both the Foundations are the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arms of Tech Mahindra Limited and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Located in the premises of the community hall in the Queens Park area of Mira Road, the facility was inaugurated by local legislator and transport minister- Pratap Sarnaik on Thursday.

The initiative is in line with Prime Minister-Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global hub for skills while generating employment opportunities for the youth. At present the skill center has introduced specialized courses in-financial services, retail sales, insurance, customer relations and sales.
Apart from in-depth training imparted by experts on the subjects, the courses which are designed to meet contemporary industry demands, will also cover important topics like-English communication, personality development, computer skills and industry visits. Class X to Class XII students and graduates living in the twin-city can enroll themselves for the courses free of cost.

The industrial and corporate houses which have partnered with the MBMC have committed to ensure placements for successful candidates, post-training. Realizing the hardships faced by the 9,500-odd students (mostly coming from the lower economic strata of the society) studying in 36-civic schools who were forced to do menial jobs in the unorganized sector owing to financial restraints, the MBMC had successfully launched projects like-Employability @18 and Campus Placement @MBMC.
The skill training center will add momentum to both the projects. “In today's modern era, there is a huge need for skilled and trained youth to boost the economy, I am glad that the MBMC has taken a positive step ahead to achieve this goal. As part of the government, setting up industries is our duty, however it is equally important to create skilled manpower.” said Sarnaik.

Unlike other civic bodies which only provide space for such facilities, the MBMC will handle all operational aspects, including infrastructure, staffing and maintenance, to ensure a state-of-the-art learning environment for trainees. The number of courses will be further increased based on feedback and assessments, aligning with emerging workforce needs.
