To reaffirm its commitment towards ensuring fairness and transparency in assessments and other property tax related complaints, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has organised redressal camps at all its six administrative wards and five other spots in the twin-city on Thursday (24, April). Applications will be accepted at the camps from 11 am onwards, officials said.

Notably, this is the first time the civic administration has launched such camps to resolve complaints/ grievances, take note of objections and also consider incorporation of practical suggestions in the assessment, billing and collection mechanism.

Apart from facilitating payment options, the camp will provide needed assistance to tax payers in chores like- property transfer, name change and alterations on bills. In another related development the civic administration has decided to continue with its popular early bird incentive scheme (EBIS). The incentive scheme offers discounts amounting five and three percent for those who opt to clear their entire property taxes on or before 30, June and on or before 31, July respectively.

This is the fourth consecutive year of the early bird scheme offering discounts to regular taxpayers. Additionally, housing societies have operational rain water harvesting systems (RWHS) and solar water heating systems (SWHS) in their premises. On the other hand, late payments will attract a fine in the form of 2 % monthly interest on the due amount. Property tax contributes a lion’s share in the overall revenue generation sources of the civic body.

The early bird incentive scheme has been evoking an extremely encouraging response from property tax payers in the twin-city. Setting a new record, the MBMC had collected Rs.241.59 crore towards property tax in the last fiscal (2024-25) which ended on 31, March-2025. A significant chunk had come from early tax payers.
