A total of 83 drunk driving cases were registered in the week-long special drive which was launched between 25 December 2024 to 1 January 2025. Notably, 48 drunk-driving cases were registered last year indicating a 27 percent dip. This year the tests were conducted with sophisticated global positioning system (GPS)-enabled breath-analysers systems which not only pinpoint locations but also click photographs of suspects and immediately hand out print out receipts with information about alcohol consumption levels. After verifying that the motorists were drunk, the police impounded their vehicles. The cases will be presented before the court for further action.

The MBVV police had deployed an additional force of around 389 police personnel including 63 officers and 23 security guards across the twin-city between 25 December, 2024 and 1, January 2025 to maintain law and order and prevent any type of untoward incidents ahead of the New Year's Eve. This apart from the deployment of a platoon of Riot Control Police (RCB) and traffic personnel to keep a check on drunk-driving cases.
