Mira Bhayandar: In a brazen daylight crime, a 50-year-old man tried to murder his wife by stabbing her with a knife in full public view, leaving her critically injured.
About The Case
According to the police, the attack was reported from the Ramdev Park area in Mira Road when the woman identified as Geeta Chettri (43), who works as a housekeeper, was cleaning the parking lot of a residential society along with her nephew on Friday morning. Geeta had been living separately from her husband, Arun Chettri (50), owing to marital discord leading to fights.

Arun suddenly arrived at the spot at around 7:30 am and got into a quarrel with her. The war of words took a violent turn after Arun whipped out a knife and stabbed Geeta in her stomach. Geeta’s nephew and the security staff of the building intervened to break the fight and managed to snatch the knife before Arun could inflict more injuries. The entire sequence of events was captured by closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the vicinity of the crime scene.
Prima facie investigations revealed that Arun was apparently irate over Geeta staying away from him, which is said to be the cause behind the attack, police said. While Arun was arrested and an offence under section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita was registered against him at the Mira Road police station for attempted to murder, Geeta was rushed to a hospital in Kandivali, where her condition continues to be critical. Further investigations were underway.
