Amid the Marathi language row, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers on Thursday removed Gujarati-language signboards displayed at several roadside dhabas along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway.

The action was taken on the instructions of MNS Palghar district president Avinash Jadhav and Vasai-based leader Prashant Khambe, who directed party workers to act against what they termed the disrespect of Marathi.

MNS workers visited multiple eateries and roadside establishments along the highway, pulling down signboards that displayed information only in Gujarati.

“This is Maharashtra; Marathi Must Be Respected”

Issuing a stern warning, MNS leader Prashant Khambe said, “This is the land of Maharashtra, and Marathi must be respected first. If the Gujarati signboards are not taken down, we will take matters into our own hands.”

He further claimed that the display of Gujarati signage had angered the local Marathi-speaking population and that the party would continue such action if necessary.

The MNS has also urged the local administration to intervene and ensure that signage respects the linguistic and cultural identity of Maharashtra.
