Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday called upon the opposition not to bring politics into public affairs and join the development journey to make Maharashtra prosperous.

Shinde, in the Legislative Council, emphasised that the lives of ordinary people in the state should become easier and more fulfilling, industries should flourish and farmers, women, youth and senior citizens should lead comfortable lives.

In his reply to the discussion on the Governor’s address, Shinde expressed gratitude for the Governor’s clear vision of Maharashtra’s development. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the new government has made a strong start, and this will be reflected in the upcoming state budget. The government aims to double the speed and quadruple the capacity of Maharashtra’s development.

Shinde pointed out that in the last two and a half years, historic development work and welfare schemes have been carried out under the Mahayuti government.

Shinde reassured that the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme will continue as planned. There have been no changes in its eligibility criteria, and no eligible beneficiaries will be excluded.

“The government has prioritised providing affordable housing to common people, with policies already in place to speed up redevelopment projects in Mumbai,” he said. Maharashtra is ranked first in the country for building homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

For farmers, the government has provided historic support, with more than Rs16,000 crore allocated to aid farmers affected by natural disasters. Additionally, Maharashtra is the only state to extend the soybean purchase deadline twice, with a record purchase of 11.2 lakh metric tons of soybeans from 5.11 lakh farmers this year.

Shinde made it clear that there would be no tolerance for the disrespect of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Shinde emphasised that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country is preparing to meet the challenges of the new world. Maharashtra is also progressing towards becoming a model state.
