Maharashtra: Nashik city recorded 29 dengue cases in the first week of July, surpassing the 25 cases reported throughout June. According to the report, the total number of dengue cases reported between January 1 and July 7 this year stands at 176. This is a drop compared to 367 cases recorded during the same period last year.
Amid rising cases, the NMC's health department fined a builder Rs 10,000 in the Cidco division after mosquito breeding spots were discovered at a construction site, as reported by the Times of India. The department has also started inspecting residential and commercial properties across the city. Residents found with mosquito breeding spots on their premises will face penalties as well.
To curb the spread, the health department has intensified spraying and fogging operations across Nashik. Additionally, an advisory has been issued to residents outlining steps to prevent dengue outbreaks.
These include thoroughly cleaning and drying water storage containers such as overhead tanks once a week, covering all household water storage units to prevent mosquito breeding, and removing scrap materials from terraces and balconies.
The advisory shared by the health department also emphasises the importance of keeping schools and office premises clean, wearing full-sleeved clothing, and visiting nearby hospitals for medical attention in case of fever.
As reported, the data from the last year shows, only 104 dengue cases were recorded in Nashik between January 1 and May 31. However, a sharp rise began in June with 165 cases, followed by a major spike in July, which saw the highest monthly tally of 435 cases. After July, the number of cases began to decline gradually over the subsequent five months.
With a noticeable increase in early July this year, authorities are urging citizens to stay vigilant and cooperate with health teams to control mosquito breeding and prevent another outbreak.
