Mumbai: Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will remain a government-run entity and will not be privatized, Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik confirmed, putting an end to speculation around the organization's future.
Speaking at a function held at the Parel Bus Depot, Sarnaik dismissed ongoing rumors about privatization and urged MSRTC employees not to be swayed by such unfounded claims.
“MSRTC is the backbone of public transport in the state and the parent organization to nearly 83,000 hardworking employees. There is no question of privatization,” Sarnaik stated firmly. “It is our moral duty to ensure the well-being and dignity of our workers.”
The minister was present to inaugurate a newly installed water purifier and cooler for the benefit of both staff and passengers. The facility was set up through the efforts of Shrirang Berge, General Secretary of the Rashtriya Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation Kamgar Congress, under the guidance of labor leader Bhai Jagtap. The event was also attended by regional manager Yamini Joshi, divisional controller Abhijit Patil, and several other officials.
In a move aimed at enhancing employee welfare, Sarnaik announced plans to appoint private sanitation agencies to maintain hygiene at rest houses used by drivers and conductors. These agencies will also handle uniform cleaning and ironing, and even provide services such as shaving and haircuts.
“These steps will help create a positive mental environment for our staff, which directly contributes to better performance and productivity,” Sarnaik noted.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to MSRTC’s public character, Sarnaik concluded by assuring employees that their interests will remain a top priority and that all necessary measures will be taken to improve their working conditions.
