Maharashtra News: CBI Busts Igatpuri Call Centre Posing As Amazon Support, Arrests Five For Cheating Foreign Nationals

The accused persons involved have allegedly committed financial fraud by impersonation and making phishing calls, deceptive calls, from the illegal call centre, posing as Amazon Support Services Call Centre and have been cheating citizens of United States, Canada and other countries, agency officials said on Sunday.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has busted an illegal call centre racket, allegedly run by certain private persons in a rented premises, in a resort at Igatpuri, Nashik and have arrested five persons. The accused persons involved have allegedly committed financial fraud by impersonation and making phishing calls, deceptive calls, from the illegal call centre, posing as Amazon Support Services Call Centre and have been cheating citizens of United States, Canada and other countries, agency officials said on Sunday.

Five Accused Arrested

Those arrested have been identified as Vishal Yadav, Shebaz, Durgesh, Abhay Raj alias Raja and Sameer alias Kalia alias Sohail.

According to the officials, CBI had registered a cyber fraud case on 08.08.2025 against six accused private persons all resident of Mumbai as well as unknown private persons and bank officials. It was alleged in the FIR that the accused persons entered into criminal conspiracy with each other and other unknown persons, and have committed financial fraud by impersonation and making phishing calls/deceptive calls, from an
illegal call centre, posing as Amazon Support Services Call Centre.

Cryptocurrency and Gift Voucher Transactions Detected

"The accused persons have been cheating citizens of the United States, Canada and other countries and fraudulently obtaining proceeds of crime via gift cards, cryptocurrency. Information revealed that the bogus call centre is located at Igatpuri, Nashik, Maharashtra. The accused persons have recruited around 60 operators comprising dialers, verifiers and closers for running the said illegal call centre," said a CBI official.

Live Cheating in Progress During Raid

Investigation by the CBI has resulted in recovery of 44 laptops and 71 mobile phones and other incriminating digital evidence as well as recovery of unaccounted cash of Rs.1.20 crores, 500 grams of gold and seven luxury cars worth Rs 1 crore. Transactions of approximately 5000 USDT cryptocurrency (Rs.5 lakh) and 2000 Canadian Dollar worth gift vouchers (Rs.1.26 lakh) were detected. During the searches, 62 employees working in the call centre were found operating live and the process of cheating foreign nationals was in progress, officials said.
