Mumbai: Alleged Naxal operative, Prashant Jalindar Kamble alias Laptop, kept changing his identity and has roamed around in several parts of Maharashtra, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Tuesday said, while obtaining his custody till May 19.
Kamble, missing for the past 15 years, was arrested by the ATS Pune unit earlier this month for his alleged links with Maoists. He was wanted in a case registered by ATS in 2011 wherein several members of radical cultural outfit Kabir Kala Manch (KKM) were booked along with others including Angela Milind Teltumbde.
The ATS has claimed that Kamble had travelled across Maharashtra. He was living in Khopoli under the alias Sunil Chandrakant Jagtap and had recently been travelling to Pune. Based on specific information, he was arrested. The agency now seeks to determine the purpose of his visit and whether the city was being targeted.
The prosecution has stated that Kamble had been changing his identity, including government identification documents, by forging records. Therefore, the agency now wants to trace all the places he has stayed, identify any other pending cases against him, and uncover the broader network of the organisation.
Besides, the prosecution had claimed that the group was involved in extortion. Kamble is said to have been absconding since many years and the prosecution said the agency needs to gather all the information about the banned organization and its members, groups and network.
