Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has alleged that the BJP-led Mahayuti government will shut down the ‘Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme after the conclusion of local body elections in Maharashtra. Thackeray claimed that the government would expand the list of ineligible beneficiaries and reclaim disbursed funds, eventually discontinuing the scheme.
The scheme has recently been mired in controversy. Authorities have decided to scrutinise applications with the assistance of various departments. However, confusion persists regarding refunds for women who have opted out of the scheme, either online or offline. Thackeray criticised the government for its lack of clarity and accused it of misleading the public.
Speculation about potential defections within Shiv Sena (UBT) has gained traction as four MLAs and three MPs from the faction reportedly met Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Additionally, Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant claimed that five Congress MLAs had also approached Shinde.
In response, Thackeray said, “Take as many MLAs as you want, but focus on serving the people. If EVMs have given you the numbers, deliver on your promises.” He further criticised the BJP and the Shinde government for fostering “divisive politics”.
Thackeray raised concerns over the implementation of key promises, questioning whether the government had begun distributing Rs 2,100 under the scheme, reinstated the old pension scheme, or resolved farmers' loan issues. Comparing political rallies, he commented, "Their rallies have singers, while our rallies have heroes."
Amid reports of dissatisfaction over the allocation of Guardian Minister roles within the Mahayuti government, Thackeray accused the ruling alliance of attempting to establish "district owners" instead of Guardian Ministers. He stated, "This government is all about strong-arming tactics, and the Chief Minister seems to be yielding to it."
Thackeray also highlighted infrastructural issues in his constituency, including traffic congestion and the absence of proper signage, emphasizing his commitment to resolving these problems.
