Mumbai: Eyeing its emergence as a major destination for global medical tourism, the state government has decided to draft a comprehensive health policy for medical tourism under the pulblic health department, In line with this initiative, State Health Minister Prakash Abitkar convened a high-level meeting with senior officials to discuss key aspects of the policy, particularly focusing on Health Tourism.
During the meeting. Abitkar emphasised the need to proThe government will list accredited hospitals on its official portal, providing details about their services, infrastructure, and the expertise of medical professionals to promote medical tourism in Maharashtra.
He highlighted that strengthening this sector would not only attract international patients but also boost employment opportunities and improve healthcare infrastructure across the state. India has long been a preferred destination for international patients seeking medical treatment.
To position Maharashtra 4s a leading state in this sector, the government plans to enhance healthcare services to meet global standards. The policy will involve private hospitals that excel in providing top-quality medical care, and these hospitals will be officially accredited by the state’s health department.
The government will list accredited hospitals on its official portal, providing details about their services, infrastructure, and the expertise of medical professionals. This initiative aims to make Maharashtra’s healthcare facilities accessible to patients worldwide, benefiting both private and government hospitals financially.
Minister Abitkar expressed confidence that this competition with private hospitals would encourage public healthcare institutions to elevate their service standards. To draft a well-rounded Health Tourism Policy, an Expert Committee will be formed.
This committee will include senior government officials, representatives from reputed private hospitals across the state, specialists from the AYUSH and naturopathy sectors, tourism department officials, and media representatives.
