Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday handed over 1,348 housing units built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in Solapur and announced that an IT Park will soon be developed in the city to boost employment opportunities for youth.
Housing Distribution Ceremony
Speaking at the distribution ceremony of 1,128 houses at Dahitne and 220 houses at Shelgi in Solapur, Fadnavis said the city is now ready for industrial growth with improved road connectivity and air services.
“If the district administration identifies a suitable location, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will establish an IT Park here. This will attract IT industries and create large-scale employment for local youth,” he added.
Projects Inaugurated by MHADA
The housing projects, constructed by MHADA, were inaugurated in the presence of Guardian Minister Jaykumar Gore and Pune Housing Board Chairman Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil.
Water and Infrastructure Development
Highlighting the state’s commitment to Solapur’s holistic development, Fadnavis informed that the city will soon receive water supply through a closed pipeline system. Work on the sewage treatment plant has already started, while an Rs 850 crore water distribution project has been approved.
“Every household in Solapur will get clean drinking water daily. Additional works at the airport will also be completed soon,” he added.
48,000 Houses Planned in Solapur
The Chief Minister noted that under PMAY (Urban), a total of 48,000 houses are planned for Solapur. Out of these, 25,000 homes have already been constructed, and 20,000 allotted to beneficiaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated Rs 1,000 crore for these projects.
“Beneficiaries will only have to pay monthly installments equal to house rent. The houses will be registered in their names, ensuring security of ownership,” Fadnavis said.
The Solapur Pattern in Housing
He praised the “Solapur Pattern” in housing development, which has provided quality homes to the poor at affordable prices. “This model has become a benchmark for Maharashtra, showing how large-scale housing can be created with all basic amenities,” he remarked.

Boost to Entrepreneurship
Fadnavis also highlighted that through the Annasaheb Patil Economic Development Corporation, over 1.52 lakh entrepreneurs have been supported across Maharashtra with financial assistance worth Rs 13,000 crore.
“The corporation has helped thousands in the Maratha community become self-reliant entrepreneurs who are now generating employment for others,” he said.
‘My Solapur, Beautiful Solapur’ Campaign
Guardian Minister Jaykumar Gore expressed confidence that the new housing projects will bring joy to over 1,300 families. He also highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure, water supply, and air connectivity in Solapur.
“With initiatives like the Solapur-Goa flight service and the upcoming Mumbai and Pune air connectivity, the city’s development will accelerate. Our vision is ‘My Solapur, Beautiful Solapur’—to make the city clean and prosperous,” Gore said.
