State cabinet has given approval for the collective redevelopment of Mhada buildings in Bandra reclamation and Adarsh Nagar Worli. This decision was made in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

There are some Mhada buildings in Bandra reclamation and Adarsh Nagar worli which have already gone for the redevelopment; those buildings have been excluded and permission has been given to remaining buildings to undergo for the redevelopment only through MHDA and construction and development agency (CDA).

For the joint redevelopment project, four floor space index (FSI) areas have been approved by the government, with one of these FSI being designated as a residential stock. MHADA will prioritize developers who demonstrate the capacity to provide maximum residential stock while meeting the financial and technical requirements during the bidding process.

The project spans across a significant area, with Bandra Reclamation covering 1,97,466 square meters, while Adarsh Nagar in Worli spans 68,034 square meters. The selected developer will be required to obtain consent from at least 51% of the members of the cooperative societies in both areas before proceeding with redevelopment.

The appointed construction and development agency will be responsible for rehabilitating the original tenants and residents of the buildings, providing temporary accommodation, renting alternative spaces, contributing to a corpus fund, and ensuring the development of all necessary infrastructure facilities. The developer will also be tasked with ensuring compliance with all government decisions and guidelines during the redevelopment process.

The approval of this project aims to improve housing availability in Mumbai and provide much-needed infrastructure development in these densely populated areas. This redevelopment initiative is part of MHADA's ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its housing projects across the state.
