In a tragic incident that occurred on Saturday (July 16) at around 8:30 pm, two friends, heading towards their home at Govandi in Mumbai on their bike, were hit by a cement mixer vehicle and lost their lives in the mishap right there.
The driver of the cement mixer fled from the spot after the accident, said police officials from Narpoli police station.
The deceased were friends and colleagues working as a worker in a company at Bhiwandi in the Thane district.
Narpoli police station senior police inspector Madan Ballal speaking with FPJ correspondent said, "Two friends, both working as a worker in a company at Bhiwandi in Thane district, were heading towards their home at Govandi in Mumbai on their bike when the cement mixer vehicle hit them from behind at Kharigaon toll bridge in Thane on Saturday. Soon after getting hit by the vehicle, both of them fell from the bike and died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Muzammil Bharkatullah Shaikh (25) and Naushad Alam Nizamuddin Ansari (25). The bodies were sent for the postmortem at a nearby hospital."
"The cement mixer vehicle driver ran away from the spot fearing that he would be beaten by the passer-by. We have taken the vehicle into our possession and have registered a case against the driver under Indian Penal Code sections 279 (Rash and Negligent Driving) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The driver has not been arrested yet but we are sure that he will be arrested soon as the vehicle is in our possession," the senior inspector said further.
