In a similar incident reported from West Bengal last week, four people, including two women, died on Friday, February 7, due to an explosion at an illegal firecracker factory in Kalyani in the Nadia district.

After the incident, a probe was ordered to ascertain if the factory had proper permissions.

Nilimesh Roychowdhury, chairperson of Kalyani Municipal Corporation, said, 'We will probe the incident. It was not a factory but a godown.'

Tension escalated further after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ambika Roy visited the area, and a few local residents raised the ‘Go Back’ slogan at him.

'Those creating a ruckus are Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons and are responsible for the explosion,' said the BJP MLA.
