Mumbai: Konkan Railway has launched a new service enabling pilgrims to transport their vehicles to the Konkan area for Ganeshotsav, called 'Car on Train'. This service functions like truck transport using the Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) approach, allowing travelers to avoid lengthy road waits and appreciate the area's picturesque landscapes.
Passengers must arrive at the specified stations three hours early to complete the required travel paperwork for this service. The expense for moving a vehicle is established at Rs. 7,875, and a maximum of three travelers can join the vehicle in an AC coach or SLR compartment.

The initiative addresses the influx of worshippers heading to Konkan, with the Raigad district having more than 1 lakh household Ganpatis, and when combined with Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, the total number of visitors this year might hit 25 to 30 lakh according to report by ABP Marathi.
The Mumbai-Goa highway has faced degradation, worsening travel difficulties for commuters. This Car on Train service seeks to address these problems by offering a dependable option.

Additionally, as another means of transportation, boats will enable sea travel to Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, lasting around 4 to 6 hours. With the regular train services rising from 35-40 trips to approximately 300-320 during the festival, the Car on Train choice provides considerable ease.
In general, the launch of Car on Train is expected to draw numerous enthusiasts and simplify their travels during the bustling Ganeshotsav season, yet its true charm will be assessed as the festival draws near.
