Mumbai: A group of alumni from KEM Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, Parel, have donated a painting from 'Unseen', the debut art exhibition of spine surgeonturned-artist Dr Manoj Singrakhia, to the hospital.

The painting, titled Propel, has been donated to inspire future doctors, which now sits in the orthopaedic department. Currently on display at the Nehru Art Gallery, Unseen features a series of figurative works drawn from two decades of Dr Singrakhia’s medical career.

In 2023, he completed a graduate diploma in fine art from the Royal College of Art, London. The faceless figures in his paintings represent patients and caregivers in moments often overlooked like a glance in the waiting room.

Dr Singrakhia said, “In the science of surgery, it is the art that makes a difference.” BMC chief Bhushan Gagrani, who was present at the exhibition along with KEM Hospital deputy dean Dr Mohan Desai, was astonished to know about Dr Singrakhia’s artistic side. The exhibition will be on display at the Nehru Art Gallery until June 2.
