Mumbai: The security guard of a high-rise building in Kandivali was arrested after the society’s community dog Princy jumped to death from the 15th floor following the assault from the guard.

Princy, a community dog living on the premises of the Kalpavriksha building of Vasant Complex in Kandivali (W) was found to be dead on the ground floor with severe injuries. As everyone thought that the dog might have fallen down from the window of one of the floors of the high-rise building, a resident also took its body to a nearby animal hospital and performed the last rites.

However, after the building’s CCTV footage was checked, it turned out that the dog had jumped from the 15th floor of the building after the security guard Mahavir Verma employed with Shivam Protection Force, chased and assaulted her with a stick.

According to a first information report (FIR) filed by Charkop police on the basis of a resident Anjana Lakshapati’s complaint, Princy was sitting on the 17th floor, where Verma started beating it with a stick to chase it away. Following the assault, the dog ran down to the 15th floor where again the guard chased and assaulted her, resulting in jumping out of a window.

After the CCTV footage went viral, the city president of People For Animals organisation Vijay Rangare, helped the complainant file an FIR with the police. A video on social media showed Rangare and his accomplice slapping Verma multiple times, after which he was arrested.

Talking to The Free Press Journal, Rangare said, “Forcing an innocent dog to jump from the 17th floor is not just cruelty but an extremely inhuman act. The police must take the strictest possible action in this case. At the same time, all the security agencies across Mumbai and Maharashtra must ensure their watchmen are not involved in such horrific acts. Proper training on animal welfare and legal responsibilities should be mandatory for all security personnel so that no guard ever commits such brutality against animals.”
